Alex on Entertaiment Weekly’s True Blood Special Inssue

When penning the fifth season of True Blood, the frightening yet disarmingly funny vampire drama that returns to HBO this Sunday, creator Alan Ball found inspiration (in all places!) by watching the scary-in-their-own-right presidential primaries.

“My first instinct about going into religion and politics was from watching Michele Bachmann, who thinks she has a direct line to God.” Ball told EW. “What would happen if she became president? A lot of right-wingers would like to see a theocracy in America. From there we thought, ‘What would a vampire theocracy be and how would you justify it? What kind of impact would it have on humans?’”

The result is a battle between the Tru Blood-sipping Authority, headed by Roman Zimojic (Christopher Meloni), and religious extremists like the Sanguinistas, who believe humans were created by God for one purpose only: to serve as a hearty meal. “Sanguine is from the Latin word for blood, and I was trying to find a name that like a real movement,” explains Ball.

We think it works!

  • Alex will be the New Face of Calvin Klein

    Smell you, Alexander Skarsgård!
The True Blood hunkster is the new face of Calvin Klein.

No, he’s not stripping down for the fashion house’s legendary underwear line, but…
I can exclusively reveal that the 35-year-old hottie has landed himself an endorsement deal with Calvin Klein men’s fragrance.
Details are being kept under wraps, but I’m told the campaign, shot a couple of months ago, will be released any day now in time for Sunday’s season premiere of—what else?—True Blood.

This isn’t Skarsgård’s first major fashion campaign. He was the face of suitmaker Hickey Freeman two years ago in an ad campaign shot by famed photographer Annie Leibovitz.

Skarsgård joins a long list of celebrities who have starred in ads for men’s fragrances. More recent campaigns include Justin Timberlake for Givenchy, Ryan Reynolds for Boss, James Franco for Gucci and Dolce & Gabbana with Matthew McConaughey.

Alex, Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer on Emmy Magazine

    Triangle Reignited

True Blood stars Alexander Skarsgard, Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer are featured in Emmy Magazine’s annual For Your Consideration Issue and ETOnline has an exclusive sneak peek at their stunning photoshoot.

Inside the issue, Paquin reveals that so much care went into casting the most compatible actors as Sookie and Bill, HBO inadvertently made a real-life love match! “They did a chemistry read with the two of us before we were cast, and obviously, it went well,” she says of Moyer, who she wed in 2010.

    Alexander Skarsgard

In addition to teasing new developments fans can expect from the season five premiere (“[Bill and Eric] actually team up against a mutual enemy.”), Skarsgard weighs in on the upside of errors.
“I’ve always been very stubborn, and if I’m going to make mistakes, I want them to be my own so I can learn and grow,” he tells Emmy Magazine.

Bullet Magazine: “Alexander Skarsgård: The Sea Inside”

In his new film Battleship, Alexander Skarsgård plays a rugged naval chief trying to save the world from evil aliens. But in real life, the devastatingly handsome, quietly captivating, and surprisingly introspective True Blood star would rather command an audience than the USS Sampson. As he sprints through the streets of New York, dodging cars and pedestrians, Idil Tabanca does her best to keep up.

While sipping an espresso at Fat Radish, a dimly lit restaurant on Manhattan’s Lower East Side, Alexander Skarsgård speaks with deep admiration about An Iliad, an off- Broadway restaging of Homer’s Trojan War classic featuring a well-reviewed performance by his True Blood costar Denis O’Hare. “If you’re into acting-acting, this is just the thing for you,” Skarsgård says, sounding like someone who’s into acting- acting. He looks down at his watch, worried that he’ll be late for the performance at the New York Theatre Workshop. “Do you want to run there with me?” he says, as he gulps the espresso like a tequila shot.

Once outside, the 6’4″ actor races across Houston Street, towering over the other pedestrians on the sidewalk. “We shot What Maisie Knew in Chinatown, out on the street,” he says, referring to the upcoming family drama, in which he stars opposite Julianne Moore. “It’s life, it’s real, it’s chaos, but it’s lovely,” says the 35-year-old Skarsgård with an accent that has all but disappeared after years spent embodying all manner of characters. “Let’s go for it, the light is green,” he says. We start to run across Second Street, when a car grinds to a halt inches away from him. “Shit, I’m going to miss the show,” he says, as he checks his watch again, ignoring the car that nearly turned the famous Swede into roadkill.

Eric #2 of Top 50 Vampires 2012 by SFX and More

Eric, played by our Alex was chosen as the 2th best among the 50 best vampires by SFX:

Eric the Viking. Once a phrase that immediately meant “flop comedy from the Monty Python guy”. Now it means, “Top Nordic vampire hottie.” Bill was supposed to be the alpha vampire on True Blood, but – although far from unpopular – he was eclipsed by his blond nightclub owner boss in the popularity stakes (if “stakes” isn’t too sensitive a word to use). As in so many other cases (Spike and Damon, for instance) he benefitted from the fact that he didn’t have to be the nice guy. Far from it – he’s an utter git, chaining Lafayette to a slave wheel, and tricking Sookie into drinking his blood. Not to mention all the killing. But it’s more than that. Eric is just so inherently cool. So cool it doesn’t matter if he does a bit of killing while getting his hair dyed; or if he cries when his maker dies; or if he wears a shell suit. He remains untouchable cool. Hell, he’s survived centuries with the name Eric. That’s how cool he is.
