A new rumor has suggested that Marvel Studios is keen on casting Ryan Gosling or Alexander Skarsgård for a major Marvel Cinematic Universe villain role.
According to scooper Daniel Richtman (via The Direct), Gosling or Skarsgård are rumored to be Marvel’s top picks for “a conflicted and powerful villain” set to appear in Thunderbolts, with the character believed to be the Sentry, a 2000s-era superhero created by writer Paul Jenkins and artist Jae Lee. In the Marvel Comics Universe, the Sentry was Robert Reynolds, a young man who gained the “power of a thousand exploding suns” after ingesting an experimental serum that gave him Superman-like powers. However, the serum also created The Void, an evil reflection of the Sentry that lurks inside Reynolds and manifests when Reynolds’ mental illness goes unchecked. At the time of writing, Marvel Studios has not publicly commented on the rumored casting or Sentry’s involvement in Thunderbolts, meaning the rumor should be taken with a grain of salt for now.
While Marvel fans have long wanted Gosling to portray the MCU’s Nova, the actor has never been too keen on that casting and has instead said that he would like to play Ghost Rider aka the Spirit of Vengeance in a superhero film. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige even responded to Gosling’s request, stating, “Hey man, if Ryan wants to be Ghost Rider…” Marvel’s head honcho then added that Gosling is “unbelievable” and “amazing” and that he would love to find a place in the MCU for him.

Congratulations may be in order for Alexander Skarsgård.
The “Big Little Lies” alum appears to have welcomed his first child with Tuva Novotny, seven months after the Swedish actress debuted her baby bump. Novotny, 42, was spotted pushing a stroller Monday after a dinner date in New York City. Skarsgård, 46, walked beside the Stockholm native while holding a baby wrapped in a blanket in his arms.
The couple have yet to announce the birth, and the “Northman” star’s rep did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment.

Alexander Skarsgard is stepping into the director’s chair for The Pack, and here are the first details.
Alexander Skarsgard has steadily been carving out quite the career in front of the camera. From starring in terrific indie films like The East and What Maisie Knew to big budget epics like The Legend Of Tarzan and The Northman, he’s clearly an actor who doesn’t like to be complacent when it comes to picking scripts.
This brings us to The Pack, a thriller which “follows a group of documentarians who brave the remote wilderness of Alaska in an effort to save a nearly extinct species of wolves. When the crew is brought back together at a prestigious awards ceremony, tensions flare as a deadly truth threatens to unravel their work. The team lived through the harsh elements of the wild but will a secret they share survive the night?”.
Skarsgard will star in the film alongside Florence Pugh, and he’s also taking the jump behind the camera as well. He’s set to direct from a screenplay by Rose Gilroy, whose upcoming film Project Artemis was sold to Apple for north of $100 million.
The Pack will begin filming in March 2023, we’ll keep you updated as we hear more.
